Saint-Jérôme is a Canadian city in Quebec, capital of the La Rivière-du-Nord Regional County Municipality (RCM), in the Laurentides region. It was created in 2002 following the merger of the towns of Bellefeuille, Lafontaine, Saint-Antoine, and the former city of Saint-Jérôme.
It is located approximately 45 km northwest of Montreal. Its inhabitants are called Jérômeiens (Jérôme residents). Saint-Jérôme currently ranks 14th among Quebec's cities in terms of population, with over 80,000 residents. It is the largest municipality in the Laurentides region. A service-oriented city, Saint-Jérôme is the headquarters of several government agencies for the Laurentides region and also has higher education and arts institutions in its downtown area.
Saint-Jérôme is built at the foot of the Laurentian Mountains and is crossed by the Rivière du Nord. The latter has four main islands, from upstream to downstream: Île des Frères, Île Perrault, Île Idéale (formerly called Langlois), and Île Longpré. Only Île Perrault and Île Idéale are urbanized. In 2016, 15% of Saint-Jérôme's territory was agricultural.
